hey guys a i have supercharged 97 camaro and i was wondering what are the limits of a good stock clutch and some of the aftermarket clutches available for 96 to 02 t5 camaros. my clutch holds up fine and i can give it wot while in 5th and it will hold. just not while racing. so for a limit of around 350 hp what do they have in the market?

Re: need a better clutch.
A Spec 3 will hold up well, your T5 will probably break before the clutch slips.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: need a better clutch.
whats the T5's weak point? my input shaft is very noisy as is and im planing on staying on street tires. ive notice its rated for 300 lbs of torque from factory but staying away from sticky tires should help. im running a stock ls1 aluminum shaft so hopefully that fails before the tranny.

Re: need a better clutch.
Go with a spec.... I just pit an exedy in... It's a good clutch but I see it slipping under extreme co.ditions.
My last 2k camaro.... My wheels slipped, got better tires(still street) fixed spin, 10th bolt went bad fixed it, then my clutch slipped. Fixed that with a spec 2 and new hydraulics and flywheel(BTW get a new flywheel) go to track.... rev up for launch... Snapped The output shaft on tranny. And yes I had an aluminum driveshaft....
Then I made it my daily driver and got a 5.0 for racing.
In fairness I had a lot of track time in my car.... I was snap launching it which is what broke components. I was also full weight.Last edited by DAS BOOT; 09-26-2011, 05:05 PM.

Re: need a better clutch.
its funny you say that because my input shaft has a ton of play and only 3rd gear whines. on the street the clutch holds most of the time but at the track it was horrible. i didn't even do a burn out and im running 235/55/r16 bs street tires. it was real sticky that day.

Ebay clutches? I would avoid anything not namebrand, if you are actually making power.
I put an EXEDY in because its a daily driver I just want to get me around, for a few more months then sell.

i've used this company of clutches before on lt1s and other with mods and have had good luck with there stage 1 and 2. but the stage 2 for a 3.8 camaro from them is rated for 300 flywheel hp. there stage 3 is a bit overkill with 365hp rating but i know it shouldn't slip with my set up.

Re: need a better clutch.
the slippage, I think is also based on spring pressure. Yes it can be rated, but if you are a bit "rough" on your shifts, it may slip then catch kind of deal.
With a Spec 2, I experienced some slippage on harsh powershifting.

Re: need a better clutch.
I would go with a Spec 3 it will hold through the gears, just need to watch 3rd gear on your tranny.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
