I want your guys opinion on this. This link is what I want to get but I never thought it would be that expen$ive. I want to get rid of the one tire fire too. So I'm kinda torn on what to do and want your opinions. Thanks http://www.jegs.com/i/Auburn+Gear/109/542046/10002/-1
The eaton is rebuildable...unless you tank every part of it...before you make the same mistake I did...step back and evaluate your goals for the car....do you plan on putting down any kinda serious/decent power? If yes, save your money and look into a ford 8.8. ford 9", or chevy 12 bolt swap.
I thought the Eaton would more than suffice for my mods, I would say my ARH cam and stall converter tore the Eaton apart in just over a year....I wish I had of taken pictures when we pulled it out of the rear...clutchs looked like shims they were so smooth, blew the rabbit ears off almost every clutch, ate through the walls of the carrier, chunked the spider gears, and mauled my C-clip...the only thing that came out in one piece from that unit were the springs...probably the cheapest thing to...
Prior to that my car ate a zexel torsen differential with the same mods...

Im not going to be adding any real serious hp. Just a computer tune and maybe a CAI sometime
You'll be happy with an LSD and some gearing. I went with 3:42's, picks up pretty good, and still can run 80mph down the highway withput the RPM's sreaming.

Do you guys have any experience with the stock torsen breaking / wearing out? I'm getting my car up on a lift tomorrow to check out the diff. It definitely needs a bearing rebuild - pinion specifically - but it makes a rattling noise too on decel, so I need to find out if its just extra backlash from worn bearings or if the torsen carrier and/or ring and pinion needs replacement.
My last 2 Toresens have been great, one with 3.42's and my current one with 3.73's, its been about 12-13 years having both. Before that I had a open diff with 3.23's.
