I really need some help with some noise from the rear of the car. It has that same sound as if a wheel bearing is bad, but I changed the wheel bearing and it did not fix the problem. Then I changed the axle shaft and again a new wheel bearing, after which it seemed like the sound was gone for a few days and it came back again.
The car is an 01 Camaro, v6 and auto trans.
Could it possibly be a wheel hub assembly? Some other type of bearing?
Mine hums above 70 mph. Not sure if your car would have a 2 piece driveshaft but it could be the hanger bearing but more than likely the clearance in the pinion and ring gear is off.
I know of a low 11 second ls1 camaro in town that cuts 1.6 60fts with a 7.5" and 4.10's that is really loud and he hasn't blown the rear end up yet so if your more than likely not going to destroy anything short term.
Personally Id pull the cover off the diff and see if the fluid has anything in it.
