GM does not take the tender loving care to bolt things in with the same affection you would. That's got nothing to do with Hurst quality.

      2) The car was not designed for racing, I agree with the chassis design. Too rigid gives a harsh ride.

      3) Yes, the reliability is less than it should be, but when you design and test something you have to use simulations, only once it is in the field will you know if it really works as designed. All of us in the auto industry use what is called Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

You can rationalize anything, but getting more on topic...

The point being the hurst shifter MIGHT work correctly, and there are other aftermarket parts out there that DO work well. I said it before and Spray'd confirmed that a lot of Ls1's that come with the hursts from the factory get replaced. Im not saying Hurst makes crap, just in this instance it looks like there is better choice.

ill just say it. Hurst is the worst shifter IMO. they come stock on some LS1's and they are taken out. they are not the highest quality shifter. there is definantly better.

One more time. The Hurst that was a GM factory option for the LS1 and the Billet Plus that is the aftermarket item for the V6 are two different shifters. You can't judge one by the other.

Agreed! I've never cared for the feel of the factory Hurst shifter option but it doesn't compare to my Hurst Billet Shifter. Apples and Oranges here folks! ;)

I'd have to say the build quality of my Hurst shifter is excellent and has held up to my years of BANGING the shifter hard, daily! The Hurst Billet Plus in combination with a short shift handle is the only route to go. My first purchase was the B&M Ripper Shifter but it immediatly went back to Jegs and I ordered the Hurst. Instant love.... even with the handle that came with it. The plastic shifter ball, however..... TRASH! ;)

And to be back on topic: Use a little dishwashing liquid to slide the factory boot over the Hurst. I've never had a problem with my boots interfering with the shifter/shifts.
