• 4.10 gears for 3.8

should i get 4.10 gears for my 98 auto firebird. I know that people have complained about spinning alot with 3.73 gears but most were also sticks. I was just wondering since mine is an auto if i should go with 4.10?

If you have a way to reprogram for it, and don't drive on the highway much- then I'd say go for it.

its alot of gear but its not to much. your biggest problem is going to be finding a way to reprogram after it. accelertion will be nice in town. a oud exhaust might get annoying on the highway but i dont think it will be excessive

u'll be hangin at about 3000 rpm on the highway w/ 4.10's. if yareally wanna go w/ those, i'd suggest u get taller rims/tires also. maybe 275-40-18 or 295-40-18's to help keep traction, get wider tires on it, and keep the highway rpm's down around 2500-2700.

if people said there cars are spinning alot of 3.73's then 4.10 would be worse

3.73s DON'T spin alot! I'm looking at 4.10 gears also because my 3.73s aren't all that great. My only worry is high RPMs on the highway. I have a speedo indicated 92mph @ 2500rpms now which is around 70-75mph but I don't want to go any higher than 3000rpms at 70mph since I do a fair amount of highway driving. 3.73s were a HUGE improvement over the stock 3.08s but I need more. I suppose there is no way in hell you can reprogram the speedo with 4.10s, but thats no biggie.

If you do a lot of highway driving, don't go with 4.10s. 3000 rpm absolutely drones if you have exhaust. Generally I try to shift below 3k or right at it in traffic. Cruising at that rpm can't be good for the engine/drivetrain, or the gas mileage.

i love my 4.10s. would be a lot better with reprogrammed speedo, but they are still fun.
