• Got screwed i think.... need verification

A year ago, i went and got some work on my drive train. I bought 3.42 gears and a Zexel Torsen Differential and got it installed at DTS (Drivetrain Specialists) here in michigan. Well at Bill's shop he spun my wheel for kicks and to his amazement only one wheel spins. When he told me i was furious. I called DTS and they said to bring the car in. I said how is it possible that only one wheel is spinning? He said... well maybe the LSD is broke. I don't know much about drivetrains but is it possible for you to drive your car around with a broken LSD????

I am thinking they didn't install it. So now i am wondering. Where is the part i bought and gave them and why wasn't installed. THis is going to be a hassle cause the work was done almost a year ago. UGGGGH

When had my open diff both wheels spun in the rain, I don't think that's a good way of verifying.

its not... i have a picture of my car at the track in the burnout out box before i had my LSD and smoke coming off both tires.

when you do a dry burnout... what happens?

Magnus, I have been in ryans car in every kind of condition but snow (he wont put it in that...) and no matter what we do, we can NOT get the wheels to spin, I thought ryan was being a tool and didnt knwo how to take the TCS off or something, but the wheels will not spin...no clue as to what is up with it.
It's always been like that, even after the rear was done...

I wish i could do a burnout. It was the reason i got the LSD in the first place. I haven't tried a burnout since the blower so who knows. I know that when it was up on the hoist, one wheel spun and the other spun in the opposite direction.

thats not a good test with the zexel... with other differentials that would be a true test but the zexel is a little different.

put a little tire shine under both tires... see if both spin or not.

if you cant get the tires to turn over with the blower on there its time to call bill back ;) :D

pull the cover off and look.. that's what I would do... good excuse to change the oil out..

The wheels will spin in opposite directions on a lift.. spin the driveshaft and turn the wheel with it.. and the other wheel will turn as well..

Regarding your lack of burnout.. you're not jerking the car.. you have to kinda shock it.. can't just sit there and stall it up.

nail the gas and a split second after that nail the brake.. the car will hop a little but you'll spin them

with my 3.73s and 2800 stall i was able to just sit there and just ease on the gas and it would start spinning at about 2900 or so, even with open diff and 3.08 i was able to spin the one tire, when i met batman at last years ais and he said his car wont do a burnout i didnt believe him. steve got in and it wouldnt burn out no matter how he smashed the gas or anything :( batman does have one of the sweetest fbodys i ever seen though

i think james' differential failed on him.

how many miles on the car since install? you might need to change out the oil/LSD additive if it's been over 30,000 miles (or however hard you are on it)

when a torsen type diff fails you are dead in the water.. when a clutch type diff (auburn which is what james had) fails usually you can still drive around for a short time but eventually everything will get chewed up and you ain't goin nowhere...

Yeah I think his did too...I also saw a couple of f-bodys on the track last friday. One in particular would start to burn out with both tires then the drivers side would stop while in the middle of it...I asked him later on and he said he had 3.42's with LSD...

yall are forgetting it is a LIMITED slip not a true locking diff. both tires are not going to spin at the same rate all the time, it is not spilt always 50/50.
