  • Will a 97 3.8 trans work?

Would I be able to put a 97 3.8 transmission into my 94 3.4 without any problems? And if it can be swapped in easily, how hard is it to put in a whole new trans?

Yes, the 94-97 3.4's and 3.8's share the same trans.
Swapping 5-speed transmissions isn't that hard of a task, but I would recommend replacing the clutch while you have everything apart (if you have high mileage on the current clutch).
Having a friend give a helping hand will also help in the process. ;)

Would there be any difference in that I currently have a 94 3.4 Automatic, and I want to swap in a 97 3.8 automatic?

Is there different bolt-on patterns between them? Will the bell housing fit fine?

I was originally hoping to just drop my tranny and bolt in the new one..but I have a feeling more will be involved. Thanks for the response so far Marc.

As far as I know, the 94 and 97 A4 tranmissions are the same size. I honestly don't know if it will be a straight bolt-on, so you may want to ask someone else that has a more direct answer.

        Sorry,
