• park question

i was going in OD about 1 mph and i put my car into park and it kinda came to a jolting stop. i dunno, just careless use of the drive stick. is this really bad for the tranny, or at this low of a speed, is it not a big deal?

Yeah, the worst that would happen, would be you'd break off the little tab that is the park gear. Which wouldn't be the end of the world, you would just have to use your parking brake everytime... I mean, come on, I do it :D

i think i actually broke that tab a few weeks ago. i had my car on a the lift after replacing my tranny and i put it in park while before i could completly stop the tires. the reason i think i broke it is b/c i have to use the parking brake cuz the car moves in park. is it hard to replace that tab, if not where is it located and how much does it cost. if its a pain in the *** i wont worry about replacing it.

Well, from what I understand, Park is a tab that sticks into a gear to keep it from turning, hence keeping the car from moving. I'm not real sure where this is located in the transmision. I was unable to find anything relating to this in my chilton manual. So I'm just guessing here, but I belive its going to be inside the transmision it self, which would take a good amount of work and time to get to and fix. I would say, if you can get by, just use the parking brake.

You should get more input on this though, becuase I'm not very familear with the workings of an Automatic, my car is stick
