  • Short Shifter Mod for 27 Bucks!

Okay I was searching the net for stuff and came across this great mod, making your own short shifter. Who needs to spend 200 bucks on a HURST short-shifter when you can make your own for 27 bucks!? It will reduce the ammount of travel you will need to make between shifting for gears.. this is for a Camaro, should be the same for the bird as well..

There's more to a hurst, pro 5.0, or ripper than just shorter throws. It also gives you "firmer" (is that a word?) shifts, and and easier pass on the 2-3 shift. For example, with the Pro 5.0 I had, when it was in 2nd gear, I could press the clutch and pretty much jam the shifter forward as hard as I could, and it would slip right into 3rd gear because the shifter springs to the center almost instantly when it leaves a gear and goes into the neutral position. Try that with a stock shifter! Alot of people put a Lou's stick on their Hursts to further improve it.

Ok, so what do you suggest? I just want shower throws on the shift so I can shift faster, the travel that the stock has for shifting is not too comfortable

Pretty much any aftermarket shifter (B&M Ripper, Pro 5.0, the Hurst isn't that great from what I hear) will shorten your throws AND the stick will force itself to the center more, so all you have to do is bang the stick forward and it'll pop right in the 3rd on your 2-3 shift. I think Lou makes short sticks for both the Ripper and the Pro 5.0. As for which is better between those two, Pretty much everybody that tries the Ripper loves it, and about everybody that tries the Pro 5.0 loves it. Since everybody loves their shifter, few people try BOTH, so it's kinda hard to compare.

Both of those MOds wont work on our cars. Thoses were done on Z28's. Our sticks are straght factory and there are no bolts to take off the handle.
