  • Trans. fell out on hwy...

The tranny didn't really fall out, but I thought it would get your attention. It was about to fall out, though. I put in a poly trans mount last week, and noticed that it vibrated a lot more than the old one, but it also seems to put more power to the ground (it feels that way at least). So I drove around town all week pretending I was the shiznit... like everyone does when they install a new mod.

A couple days ago the driveline started to bang on something whenever i shifted gears or gunned the throttle. It got worse over time. Last night I put the car in the air and two of the trans crossmember bolts were missing, while the other two took only one turn to drop loose. The trans. was about one downshift away from falling out. The driveshaft was barely hanging on.

Moral of the story: If you put in a stiff trans mount, torque the piss out of the xmember bolts so you can avoid being a dumba$$ like me.

It probably wouldn't have fallen out, it's bolted onto the engine pretty well.

Torque the piss out of them? You're screwed.
How about: torque the hell out of the to factory spec. Really. Some stuff is not tight, some mid-tight, some *** tight. I seem to remember that the center bolt was like 100's and the sides were 40's or so ... get a manual before you do any other installs. If you torqued the piss out of them, you might have stripped threads, making for an even worse situation.
        Good luck!

        Edit: loctite!

I was speaking metaphorically, I didn't run them down that hard. Plus I did put thread lock on them.
