  • tranny mount install, why is it so loud?

my shifter is lying a bit low but its not too bad, but ugh, this vibration is disgusting, I looked through some old posts and people added washers to dampen the sound, i don't think that'll work with mine, is there anything else i can do to make this NON existant?

If you want to get rid of ALL of the vibration, you will have to go back to a rubber tranny mount.

The poly mounts are designed with one thing in mind- stiffness. They sacrifice noise for stiffness. If you decide that you would rather have a quieter ride, you'll have to have a softer mount. Its that simple.

I got a Prothane poly trans mount and went and bought a new stock transmission mount to compare since my old one was broken. The stock one is 2 9/16" tall. I knew my Poly one was short so i cut myself 3 spacers outta 1/4" angle iron to stack between the mount and transmission. Measuring it came out MAYBE 1/32" taller than the stock one. But that's not too much to worry bout especially since u can't use the factory safety catch anymore it compensates for that. I went and bought 2 2" bolts for the mount. Stock bolts were 1 1/4". Now, perfect geometry.

I HAD to fix mine the right way because even with washers i couldn't bring the transmission up enough and my front universal joint wore out.

Yes, your going to have to add spacers, and the vibration and noise is normal with the poly mount. When I installed mine, the vibration was so bad, it felt like my tranny was gonna fall out of the car. It gets a lot better after it breaks in, in about 500 miles or so.
