  • Crap.....tranny is goin out?

Well I have had the following problem 3 times.

I drive the car a little ways, then all of a sudden the transmisssion goes nuts. From a stop, if you floor it, it revs up to like 4500 and goes nowhere, then slowly slowly starts to move, and sometimes it shifts, sometimes it doesnt. The other night this happened and I lost 1st, 2nd, and 4th gear. Tonight I lost 4th. It fixes itself if I unhook the batter for a while. Whats goin on?

Almost sounds like a PCM problem, if disconnecting the battery helps. However, it could that the trans is trashed. Did you get an SES at all? Your best bet is to take it to a tranny shop, and ask them.

It could also be the TPS.

The ses light has been on since i've had the car. Got it scanned and supposedly nothing is wrong. And I was thinkin pcm also because its obviously electrical, but i didnt know anything for sure.

while unhooking the battery for a while might fix the problem, it also gives the trans a chance to cool down. so i dont know about the pcm being the problem. no ses light is harmless when you have a problem. what was the code?

had the fluid changed recently? if you havent had the fluid changed you could have some gunk (mostly band material) clogging the valve body. if you havent had the fluid changed in a while, i would say drop the pan clean it well and then have the trans flushed professionally (this will run about $150).

what is the condition of your trans fluid? black? dark red? does it smell burned? (ok, this one is hard unless you know what fricasse of transmission smells like).
