  • odd differental leak

About 6 months ago i bought a 1996 3.8 5-speed camaro. ever since i have had the car any time id take my foot off the gas the car would go to slow almost as if i had my foot on the brake slightly, but i figured it was because it was a stick... well i was wrong.

while the car was jacked up i noticed my driveshaft was soaked in oil. when i went to check my differental level i had my finger about an 1/ 1/2 inch down that hole before i could even feel any oil.

the leak isnt where i had hoped it to be.. its not the cover, its where the shaft meets the axel and its dripping down the entire driveshaft.

heres my question, beside changing the leaking gasket, if anyone can recmond any other things to stop this from happening again that would be great, i was looking into a driveshaft loop from rk sports to give it more support. if anyone can recmond any other aftermarket parts i should look into before ripping my rear end apart let me kno... im not looking foward to doing this so id like to do it once.

    thanks

Rear Pinion Seal. A lot of fbodies have this problem. Less than $100 at the dealership.

nothing better offered as an aftermarket product since this is an often problem?

and does a driveshaft loop from rksports actually do anything to prevent this from happening again or is it a waist of money?

Doesn't do anything to prevent it from happening. A driveshaft safety loop is a safety meaasure in case something where to happen and the driveshaft suddenly broke or a u-joint and in result catapulting your car straight into orbit or bouncing around and causing damage to other parts. Hope this helps. Btw if you don't drag race you car often and you never use slicks don't bother unless you just absolutely must. The rule goes that if you use slicks and run quicker than a 13.99 you have to use one. I might be a little of on that, it's been awhile and if I am I'm sure someone will correct me.
