• Ok guys need some help with 3.73s!

OK I have been doing a lot of reading and thinking since I decided I wanted to get rid of the 3.08s and the one wheel wonder. My question is to all of you that have automatics and have 3.73s how did you correct the speedometer (which would include the top speed limiter, shift points and so on)? I was originally just going to get 3.42s and LSD and now the more time I have to think about the more I want 3.73s. The only thing is that I don't want them if I can't have everything right in the car. Such as the speedometer, shift points, top speed limiter, and so on. Because if I can't do that I'll just stick with the 3.42s and get a vin# from a car that had 3.42s from the factory and reprogram. Now I have heard that the SLP Electronic Speedometer Re-calibrator works and then others have told me only with the 5-speeds will it work. Also it seems Hypertech doesn't make a programer for my year V6. Why they only made it for the 2000-2002 cars and they wont work on the early years is beyond me. Well, that's about it guys just really am getting close to buying a set of gears and LSD and don't want to make a mistake. Thanks a lot guys for the help.

what i did is get a list of all the dealerships in my area off of chevrolet.com and then call them one by one. ask for the service dept. and ask if they can reprogram your speedo. might take a while, but i got lucky and maybe the second or third place i called said they can do it for about $85
you can\'t get off if you don\'t get on

Really they reprogramed your car for 3.73s? Thats awesome! Did they say how they did it? I know you can reprogram for 3.42s if you have the vin# of a car that had it from the factory but I didn't know they could do it for an option that wasn't available. Also how do you like you 3.73s?

This has me stumped.

Thunder has the part listed for any F-Body, 93-02. TByrne has it listed for 98-02 only. Neither make any mention of transmission type.

If my electronics training serves me correctly it should work on any fourth gen. It's just a $0.79 potentiometer with some $0.09 wires and the SLP badge that brings the price up to $180.

I'm stumped because SLP makes this product yet there is no mention of it whatsoever on their webpage. I don't expect much out of SLP but I do expect them to provide information about their product before I go out recommending them, through the Mods Encyclopedia, to thousands of our members. Furthermore, I am not yet a member of the SLP message board. Registering is currently disabled, so even if I wanted to join to post asking about it, I cannot. I tried doing a search for "speedo" but I cannot search without being a registered member. No, I am not going to call them long-distance to find my answers.

I am e-mailing Thunder to set the record straight about this... let's see how soon I get a response. I'll let you know.

(FYI, I personally recommend 3.42 much more than 3.73. I had 3.73s in my car for about a year and hated them. Car ran out of steam once it hit fourth gear, and I hit fourth quick with those gears in there.)

Thanks a lot Stefan for the information. I like it when I get information from someone that has had personal experience with what ever I'm asking about. I think I'm just going to stay with the original idea of 3.42s and LSD.

i haven't gotten it done yet, and i may not. but basically they use something called a tech 3 i believe to reprogram only the vss part pf the comp. they said they normally do it for tire size changes but it will work for gears too. check my new post for why i may not have this done.
