Need some tranny help

Okay guys, when I bought my Camaro a few weeks ago I knew it had a tranny leak. It is a small leak but a leak none the less.

Well I finally have had time to clean it all up and try to find where it is coming from and it looks like there are 2 areas.

This picture is not of mine it is something I grabbed from the internet, but will help explain I hope.



L1:
Looks like it is leaking from around this cover.
What is this cover?
Is there a gasket or seal that should be installed there?
It looks like they beat the hell out of the cover with a hammer and screwdriver to get it on, is there a way to remove and replace WITHOUT dropping the trans?

L2:
Looks like it might be leaking between the speedo housing and trans.
Is there a gasket or seal there also?
Looks like that can be done WITHOUT dropping the trans, is this correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

L1 is the outside of the servo. This can be removed and installed without removing the trans. You may have to lower it a little, but it can be done in-car. There is an O-ring on that outside cover that can be replaced, but if there is physical damage to it, I would try to find a replacement. Damage to the cover could cause the o-ring to not seal properly. Also check for damage to the case, that could cause a leak as well.

L2 is the transmission tailshaft. There is a gasket there and it can be replaced without removing the trans. Just pull the driveshaft and the speed sensor, then take out the 4 bolts around the tailshaft.

Okay maybe this is a stupid question but do I need to drain the pan to do these repairs?

I figured it would be a good time to change the fluid anyway and install some Amsoil.

I also ended up ordering a Corvette servo as I was reading about how that should firm up the shifts pretty good.
