The differential is in the rear end. It carries the ring gear and the axles connect to it.Matt

Hard to tell from that pic, but it could possibly be the seal where the pinion gear connects to the drivesahft.
Also, check out: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htmMatt

Mine looks like that but it doesn't leak. It's from a while ago when it did leak. It's just like stained now.\'99 SSM Camaro V6 M5
(mod list on cardomain site; too long to list here)
http://www.cardomain.com/id/v6cam99

Just go to a local auto parts store, should be no more than like $5. Just gotta pop the 10 bolts off the diff cover (have an oil pan or something ready to get the gear oil that will pour out all over), scrape the old gasket off (whats left of it), put the new gasket on and bolt the cover back on, and finally refill the diff with gear oil (there's a little plug at the top where you pour the gear oil in). You should only need about 2-2.5 quarts/bottles of gear oil.
p.s. gear oil stinks like sh!t\'99 SSM Camaro V6 M5
(mod list on cardomain site; too long to list here)
http://www.cardomain.com/id/v6cam99
