• I love my car and its 4.10s

Today as I pulled in the driveway after my night class I looked at the odometer (the trip one) and it read 351.2 miles. I reset this everytime I get gas, no exceptions because usually you need to change something when your gas mileage goes down so I like to keep track. Anyhow, I thought back to when I got gas and remembered filling up to right inbetween the 3/4 and full mark. Now I'm sure you guys have the same deal as me with the gas guage where it stays at full for about 75-100 miles before it starts to move but when it does it moves fast. So I would say that since we have about a 17 gallon tank that I filled it up with around 14 or 13 gallons. My gas light has yet to come on but I'm sure it will soon meaning I have around 2-3 gallons left. That means that I got 351.2 miles out of 10-12 gallons of gas (93 octane) on purely city driving with 4.10 gears. That means that I'm getting somewhere between 30 and 35 mpg in 90 degree weather, how sweet is that?!?!? I love my car and my 4.10s. In case you're wondering I do get on it but not too often and during those times that I'm not getting on it I shift at 2500rpms. That's right, be jealous. :D

Wouldn't the high gears affect the odometer, cuasing your reading to be innacurate?

*cough* the gears are throwing off your odometer. YOur odometer reads more mileage then you are actually driving. Say you drove 1 mile. Your odometer woudl read it as like 1.3 miles.

Its the reason why I just put in a LSD, instead of buying at least a 3.42s z28 rear and swapping it in, I couldn't recalibrate the speedo/odometer, and since my car was lower mileage didn't want to jack the miles up a little bit.

I thought our tank was smaller than that, more liek 13 gallons. When im below the 1/4 i have never put more than 10-11 gallons in, becuz the pump would stop.

Its is actually 16.9 Gallons. My 2000 3.8 m5 is a 16.9 gallon tank. I don't know where you guys are getting 15.2 or 15.5 look in your vechile manual.

I think they are getting it by running out of gas and filling it all the way up.
Thats the "usable" size of the tank anyways.

Estimating the usable size of the tank, etc is a dumb way to get gas mileage.

Fill it up, reset the tripometer, drive it, refill. Divide the trip reading by the refill gallons. Thats the only way I trust.

I think the manual says we have a 15.5 gallon tank. I've run mime completely dry a couple of times (oops!) and was able to squeeze just about 16 gallons back in there.

Like I said in another thread, some of our mods will boost mileage, but 35 mpg really seems like pushing it.

Like mwh27 said, borrow a handheld GPS and double check your speedo. Something smells fishy to me.
