what year did Second gear start button get replaced with a real TCS button???
Anyone have a 98 with a TCS or ASR button??? Let me get this straight....there is no way to turn the POSI on and off..but since the traction control system is different than the posi..the TCS or ASR button controls just the traction???
i believe '99 is the first year for tcs in the v6 firebird's. the system is a little different in the v6 compared to the v8. when wheel spin is detected (by watching the abs sensors) it reduces engine throttle via the electronic throttle body (often called drive by wire). this is only available on 99+.
on the v8, the engine computer applies the brakes to slow the wheels that are spinning. it doesnt reduce engine throttle.

sgs is different than tcs. sgs only starts the car off in second gear in hopes to reduct slippage. you can have both also (my ta does). the newer cars dont have a button, you just put the gear selector in 2nd gear and its applied automatically. my caprice was the same way, and i think my tahoe is the same also. must be a 4l60e thing. im not sure how the ls1s kill power. def feels like the brakes kick in, but then it kills power for a bit somehow. it kicked the pedal back at you, so maybe its prolly closing the throttle.

I was testing out my Traction control on my new Formula in the snow the other day, it like pulses then pushes the peddle up, and the RPM's will not go above like 1700 even when "floored" (the peddle is forcefully pushed up)

On the LS1 the throttle cable runs to a black round mechanism located on the passenger side inner fender, behind the battery, and then goes to the TB. The black round thing says "Robert Bosch" on it. It looks like some kind of electric motor that pulls the throttle cable back when the ASR calls for reduced engine power.
