How hard is it to install that rear seal where the driveshaft goes into. I wanted to get my new seal ,u joints, and driveshaft installed. I have all the parts so I asked the guy how much is labor. The guy told me atleast a couple hundred. Thats rediculous. I thought it takes 30 min to swap a new shaft on? I figured i do the seal while i was there cause its leaking. Do i need to drain the fluid or something?

Is your tranny leaking? If not why replace it. U-joints would be the hardest thing to do. With a lift just swamping drive shafts is 4 bolts so thats not intensive.1999 Pontiac Trans Am M6 Far from stock.....

ahh pulling the seal isn't that bad, it's kinda hard to mess up just make sure you don't nick up the seal seat and it'll be fine. Also when instalilng the new seal get a big socket or a piece of pipe the same diameter as the seal or pretty close and drive it in evenly. I don't see this taking much more than an extra 10 minutes or so on top of swapping the DS. Mechanic might have thought you were wanting to change the rear main in the engine which is why he might have quoted you that much.-Brad
