• Installing 3.42s

I have a stock rear end with 3.08s. I recently purchased 3.42 gears. What will have to take place to get the gears in and done right. I will propably will end up getting a lsd too. What will I notice. A big performance gain or a small gain. All of your comments are appreciated. I also did a search and didnt come up with what i wanted. But if you know of a topic that was discussed about this could you give me a link. Thank you.

i've seen people get a gain anywhere from .2 - .5 ...you're going to need to have the PCM tuned for the new gear ratio (which is one of the reasons why i bought HP Tuners)...my 3.42 LSD goes in on the 17th

About $300 and a good mechanic who knows what he's doing.

no. pcm tuning is about $275 through www.texas-speed.com

or $50 at a dealer (not tuning, just gear correction) if you can find one that will flash a Y87 vin for you.

I went to the dealership earler and they said that they cant flash a Y87 vin in. (or just plain wont.) but are there any other places that will do the gear correction? Also Im not much for noing how much of a difference .2 and .5 is going to feel because I've never gotten the chance to go to a track. but is it a noticable difference?

you'll probably notice a little better low end throttle response...and yeah the gear change should cost about $300 ...thats how much it cost to get my performance 3.08s in...the dealer wouldnt change them for me either...thats why i bought HP Tuners...i really couldnt see any other way to do it...plus i needed to calibrate for the injector upgrade too

before you get the 3.42's in you will need a 3 series carrier also. (aka: a zexel torsen diffy)

^^unless you get the SLP gears from LMperformance.com or something already made for a 2 series carrier...only thing is your diffy will still be open instead of a LSD

I'm tired of the 1 wheel burn out and a crappy launch. So what will make them both spin? The zexel torsen diff?

try to find a take off zexel torsion posi unit. otherwise your going to be spending big money on a new unit. Ebay is a wonderful thing.
