How hard is it? I can get a car on 4 ramps, use 2-ton jack for tranny and jackstands...

Undo the driveshaft, undo bellhousing bolts, undo k-member and just drop the tranny on the stands?

How hard is it to do yourself in the driveway?

i think you mean cross member not K-member

hardest part is getting to the top 2 bolts on the bell housing

May be a dumb suggestion, but, make sure you have an alignment tool when doing this. You'll be under there forever trying to get the trans shaft to match up with the pressure plate/disk if you don't.
You should also replace the pilot bushing and get the flywheel resurfaced while you have it all apart.

just remove the mount/ x member first and let the tranny hang so that you can use a very long extention and swival to remove the top belhousing bolts. Then suport the tranny and pull the rest. RWD trannys are rather simple.

I did it in my garage. The transmission only weighs about 65 lbs. The new clutch should come with an alignment tool.

How exactly did you do it?

Can I use 4 ramps instead of stands? I don't feel comfortable getting under the car when it's on stands. I might get rails from somewhere though as a precaution in case stands fail.

Basically all you gotta do is take off the tranny and replace the clutch and bearing? How long did it take you?

              </font>
you should take the fly wheel off and have it re-surfaced...... its about $20-$40 but worth it IMO.

yeah you can use 4 ramps

              you need a bearing puller

and i would replce your slave cylender while the tranny is out..

your goign to need brake fluid to bleed the clutch after install.

I used castrol syntec Dexron, i think it took 3-4 quarts. It says in your owners manual. Also, i'd suggest filling it up through the shifter hole in the top of the tranny, it makes it way easier.

I trust stands more than ramps, plus they give you a lot more room on the ground, and you can get the car higher in the air, which every inch higher you can get the car, the easier it is on you.

It would suck to have the tranny dropped, only to find out the car isn't high enough to slide it out.

From experience, it is easy to put a jack under the tranny from the front of the car drop the tranny, and pull it out from the front. Put it back in the same way.

                      I just got your IM...

I am gong to us Mobil 1 tranny fluid, it was pricey though, like $4-5 an bottle. I forgot the exact capacity but double check the owners manual IM me or ask here if you need the exact amount.

As for filling it up, I bought a suction gun, it holds a quart, basically works like a giant syringe, suck the fluid up, push it out in the tranny.

You can always fill thru the shifter hole.

Clutch at home is a pain, but doable. Worst part is the hydraulic line disconnect. Don't even ask. :(

I've not separated my recently bought engine/tranny from each other in the garage yet, but I know that with the small blocks, there was no bearing in the flywheel, just a copper bushing. You don't need a puller necessarily, if you fill the hole in the bushing where the imput shaft goes with grease, put a dowel partially in the hole, then tap at it with a hammer, the hydraulic force in the hole should push it out. Same should go for even a small bearing in there....give it a shot....
