• BRAKE / ABS lights on after 3.42 LSD install

the gears are in...the upgrade ROCKS...however..the "BRAKE" and "ABS INOP" lights are on...i was told this was due to wheel speed?...and that it should be fine when i do the recalibration since that takes care of the VSS and everything...so my question is......should that all be fine after the recalibration??..has this happened to anyone else??...just wanted to get second/more opinions from you guys here on the board...im planning on doing the recalibration on saturday...thanks! Wow, this has absolutely nothing to do with Advanced Tech.

What gears did you have before? Did you swap the ABS Reluctor ring onto the new differential?

well...im not sure where else you would put questions about recalibrating the PCM for a gear ratio change....

i went from an open 3.08 to a 3.42 LSD ...it was a pro install..i've been to the place before...the guy used to build Catapilar's motors so he's pretty reputable...i'd be surprised if he would mess something like that up...what do you think?...ever heard of this??

Both this post and one about gear ratios belong in Drivetrain. ;)

If the guy that installed the new diffy didn't get a new reluctor ring for it, you'll get that problem. If you had a series 3 gear before you could've just reused the old one (like I did when I installed mine), but since you had series 2 you need a new one.

Btw, found this in a search: http://www.camarov6.com/cgi-bin/ulti...;f=23;t=002349

Shouldn't do any damage, you just won't have ABS. Just don't slam on your brakes and expect ABS to keep you from locking 'em up. ;)

yup..you hit the nail on the head man...nice job

SLP Ring, Reluctor Camaro/Firebird (ABS)
To help you complete your gear ratio swap on your 7.5" differential*, SLP now has available the reluctor ring to retain your ABS operation. No longer will you have to search the dealership shelves looking for this ring. These are required if moving from a 2-series carrier.

...cost about $20 ...man im really disappointed they missed something that...if you know gears...seems pretty text book...guess i'll have to set up another appointment tomorrow...the gears themselves rock though...one more question...does this ring go in the differential?...if not...where exactly does it go or is a part of? your telling me that they just failed to notice that the old diff had an exciter ring and the one they put in didn't?

The ring bolts TO the carrier betwen the ring gear. The whole thing needs to come compleatly back off and the rear SHOULD be double checked for proper pinion depth and gear backlash.

All I can say is wow.. I thought it was something when one of our EX mechanics didn't know to put limited slip additive in a camaro that he did axle seals in. But this takes the Duh of the year award. Seriously..

Yup, reluctor ring goes behind the ring gear. Shouldn't need to reset pinion depth, but backlash will have to be checked again as the whole carrier needs to be shifted slightly left to make room for the reluctor.

I know it's a common mistake people make when swapping an open for a LSD themselves, but for a shop who does gears to do it?...

If he is old school, he won't know what in the hell an ABS ring is. You only know if you have seen it before...
