  • Clutch Going Out??

Lately i have been noticing a strange sound coming from under my car. It sounds like the clutch engaging but its audible in the car. It has a lot of vibration aswell. And it only happens when i am engaging into gear. I have never heard it before so it leads me to believe my clutch is going bad or a part associated is going out.

    Any ideas/thoughts/comments are appreciated.

It may be the slave cylinder. Have you checked the fluid and bled it lately?

my new guess is that it might be my exhaust vibrating against something because the more i listen to it the more it sounds like it is coming from the rear of the car. And i said i hear it when i was engaging and when engaging i am also giving the car some gas.

I revved the car in neutral and found it was happening. Any ideas??

With my new 3" system it rubbed at first right behind the cat, im guessing that is what it is. You can put some washers to lower the [tunnel brace?, i forgot that flat metal piece by the tranny that the exhaust goes over], and bend down the lip in the front and back to give some clearance.

My clutch has been making a weird sound too. When I'm coming off the clutch after I put it in gear it makes like a very brief "psshh" sound. Sounds like a turbo or something.

Also it sometimes stays revved for a second or two after I come off the clutch in first and second gear before it really engages.

I am hearing a noise that sounds like a dry throw-out bearing. I had a new clutch and a new slave clyinder with new release and pilot bearing put in at my local trans shop but it still made this dry bearing sound so I took the serpentine belt off to be sure it wasn't on the front end of the motor.I took it back to the trans shop and they said that they will put a dealer assembly on instead of aftermarket. It still makes the noise! It starts at 1500 rpm and pushing the clutch pedal will make the sound change. It does it in gear,in neutral, rolling to a stop and as I drive in first or second.I don't seem to hear it in third. HELP!

My siter and I have twin white 97s and both had a noise from the back end that was part of the exhaust rubbing on the gas tank heat shield on the right side. A pair of pliers took care of it.In my post above I should add that at 71,000 miles of hard launches and good old fun driving the clutch that came out was actually in good shape I had them hold it for me so we would get an idea of how my sister's would be.
