• HELP car makes a (winding?) noise when i accelerate

I just bought a used 00 v6 bird for $6k. It has 80k miles on it, & is automatic. I test drove several other cars before I bought this one, and they did not seem to make this strange winding noise when I accelerate. It is not loud enough that I can hear it over the radio though, haha. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? My grandpa worked with transmissions at ford for his whole life and he said hes pretty sure it isn't the tranny.

My car also makes a winding noise, similar to a turbo or supercharger around the 2000-3000 RPM range during normal acceleration.

My friend owns a Thunderbird SC, he drove in my car and also heard the whine. Said it sounded like my car was supercharged. So it might just be a loud intake.
At least from 2000-3000 RPMs you could scare the Rustang next to you.

I did a little driving today and now I notice that it isn't really that bad when I accellerate. However when I was idle, I could hear it from 0k through to about 2k rpms

My 02 also has a very slight turbo-type noise when accelerating. I think it sounds kinda cool. It's had it from day 1 so I'm not concerned. But mine comes from the engine area.

Yes, mine also comes from the engine area. I like it personally Even my friends ask if i have a turbo when they ride with me.

A noise like that can often be caused by a bad power stearing pump. Maybe check the fluid level?
