LSD and 3.73 help *Update*

Hey guys
im getting a LSD and a set of 3.73 gears for christmas. Right now my car is pretty much stock except for intake/catback but hopefully i'll be ordering a turbo once everything at FFF gets sorted out. Anyway i just wanted to check and make sure this combo would work out. My main concern is installation. I live in a pretty small town and i'm afraid that either im not gonna be able to find a good place to install them or im gonna get ripped off. any help on where to get them put in would really help.

i couldnt find a Torsen T-2 Series diff....but if anybody could give me a link like on e bay or somewhere id really appreciate it.

Why dont you just find a junk yard and get a rear from a Z28? Rear disc, posi, and 3.42's. Very easy swap.

Also, why would you put 3.73's in your car with a 3.4? Have you done any reading on this board about gear selections for a V6 fbody at all?

if he is thinking of getting the turbo kit then i dont think 3.73's would be a bad idea.

Don't buy the parts only to have them lying around if you can't find someone or afford to have them installed. Get the installation nailed down first. It'll probably be in the $300 range.

Don't buy cheap gears. For just a little more than those you can have name brand.

3.73s would be an excellent idea for a turbo. 4.10s or higher would be better for N/A on a 3.4. I paid around $300 to have my rear built. Just find a machine shop near you.

IAN: yes i have done alot of reading on these forums about gear selection. i only post on here if i cannot find the answer im looking for through searching. Also like i said i live in a small town so there arent alot of junkyards here. i do not want to pay for the rear end and then on top of that alot more to have it shipped for something i would never really be happy with. maybe u are the one who hasnt done any ready b/c u would have read that a turbo is definately in my plans. i dont drive on the highway much and would like that extra push 3.73s give over 3.42s also. i have drum brakes and do not have traction control on my car as would a z28 rear.

also i am still looking for a place to buy a LSD

You can find V8 rears that didn't have traction control. And salvage yard would be overpriced probably. Check classifieds in Fbody forums. That's how I found mine, a '96 3.42 Z28 rear. Posted in the wanted section and had a response in a couple of days. Had to drive nearly 3 hours to pick it up but sure saves on shipping.

Anyway, if you really want 3.73 gears I'd still look and make sure you can find someone to do the work first. Then once you've got that lined up, get a set of Motive or Richmond gears.

about how much would a set of motive or richmond gears run me.
although i heard that GM gears were Motive gears?

Noone uses a lower ratio than a 3.42

get the zexel over the auburn if it is the oem differential. For the heavy duty $300+ version get the auburn. also ian its not a big deal for him to run 3.73's because from what he has been saying he doesnt drive highways often enough for mileage to be an issue and if he gets the turbo he will have more power and will be able to keep his top speed pretty high as well. To each their own, 3.73's dont fit my usage very well more because i drive like 60mi a day on the highway and i need the better milage (also one reason i decided on a turbo over SC and had to drop the V8 option for a while)

Yea, i guess w/o highway driving 3.73's wont be too bad, but i just hope he relaized if he ever changes his mind with the whole FI route or whatever, 3.73's are going to be dogs at like anything past 2nd gear in a 3.4
