I went 3.73 w/ zexel lsd on my 3.4. It worked out pretty good. Top speed dropped to like 105 but I don't go that fast often so I don't care. Off the line is sweet. I have yet to be beat by an ls1 or lt1 on street tires in the 60'. After that though it's a different story. :D Seriously though, it's a good setup. My install was $250
Don't use imported gears they are NO good. Use factory gm Gears, or precision Gears through www.Drivetainsuperstores.com
I will be doing the same swap in a few months.
Use can use a series 2 or series 3 carrier posi.
Series 2 use thick gear set
series 3 use standard thickness gear set.
Assuming a 3.73 gear ratio swap
good luck
Buy a full install kit

not to mention he is most deffinately not a FI member.

3.73 with posi complete rear:
I just paid 350 for one of these, with an Eaton posi that was freshened a few hundred miles before. 200 more for install.
SLP takeoff posi no longer are available (the 99 buck one); your options are all around 400-500 for JUST the new posi, 200 for gears, 100 for install kit, 200 for install and setup = 900+.
Haunt the V8 shops; a lot of guys are going 12 bolt or 9", and have stepped up to a 3.73 previously. Note also that the LS1 stuff WILL fit in your axle housing, though you may need to swap ABS reluctors to maintain ABS function.
A great condition used rear is worth from 100 to 500 bucks, depending on gears, posi, and mileage.
Originally posted by Ian: Yea, i guess w/o highway driving 3.73's wont be too bad, but i just hope he relaized if he ever changes his mind with the whole FI route or whatever, 3.73's are going to be dogs at like anything past 2nd gear in a 3.4
seriously man, get some 3.73's and actually run them before you dog them. For some strange reason, most of the people on here dont understand the concept of gearing. The less horsepower you have, the more gear you need. 3.73's will out accelerate a 3.42 in any gear all the way up to the speed limiter, just like 4.10's will out accelerate 3.73's all the way to the speed limiter. Just because the quickest guy on the site doesnt have them doesnt mean they are the best. He could run way way faster by running some more gear and a sticky tire.
Great advice, thats why i am going 3.73's in the spring after my engine rebuild. I mean, I don't drive @ 100 mph anyway, i just want acceleration around town, and a good SOTP feel.
