Has anyone Swapped the whoel rear axle with the Trans-Am rear axle to get the 3.42 and the disc brakes? I want to try this, will it be diffcult?

Very easy. Just need another person to help you cause it's heavy. On the final step you'll take the torque arm bolts off and the axle will be on the jack. One takes the bolts off, the other holds the axle steady. Then when putting on the new axle you'll need someone to lift it nice and even onto the jack. You can each do one side and speed up the process.

You shouldn't have to touch the suspension.
The new brake lines should hook right up, however you'll need the longer emergency brake cable. You may want to put in a new proportioning valve, but I don't think you have to.-James<br /><br />\'96 3.8L A4 Camaro (SOLD)

Some say you need a proprtioning vavle, I don't have one and it works great, car stopps better ten it ever did before.
Its technically easy, but the actual work involed moving the rear axle itslef is kinda difficult. I didn't need a manual to figure it out till I got ot unhooking the e-brake cabel form the drums(pain in the *** !)

Can you be more specific about that longer emergency break cable? Guys at local part stores are clueless.
Do you guys know if the break in the rear are the same on LT1 and LS1? And what about the emergency breaks? I think LS1 might have a different setup.
I actually never use my emergency break so it's ok if I dont hook it up at all, right? I'll just get a nice break light on the dash.

You shouldn't get a brake light in the dash if you don't hook it up. That light is triggered by a contact switch under the console. When the brake lever is down, it breaks the circuit and the light is off. When pulled up the metals contacts touch and the light is on. Its a very simple mechanism under there. I was a little suprised when I finally figured out what it was

I believe from what I have heard all you need is the e-brake cable from the same year transam as yours to make it work. That will make it the same leight as the stock on a tranams/ss or what ever yoou us.I am not CRAZY just temporarily disturbed.
