Soon I will be installing my 3.42 gears. So I called around and a place quoted me $951+ tax, to Install MY gears, install auburn posi unit, new shims, bearings, and seals.

^^ I had ALL the parts when I went to my mechanic. All he supplied was fluid and labor.
I was under the assumption by the way you posted you were providing everything. If they are coming up with all the parts except for your gears, thats not too bad.
Thats why if you can find a used Z-28 rear end w/ 3.42's its a deal.... if you can live with a used beat-on rear end with a questionable life expectancy of its own.\'01 Mineral Grey SVT Cobra<br />-former F-body owner

run. i got quoted by professionals 100 bucks if i supply my own ****.96 Camaro M5. i got a quote from a very good shop local to me. 65$ for differential install, 115$ for diff and gears. i owned the gears and diff and fluids. so it costed me 115$ when i had gotten mine all installed and i looked at previous work they had done and i liked what i saw.
