  • Dose this sound right?

Soon I will be installing my 3.42 gears. So I called around and a place quoted me $951+ tax, to Install MY gears, install auburn posi unit, new shims, bearings, and seals.

sounds about right for an @ss raping. should be $3-400 maximum. with all taxes and using their fluid to refill the rear end my bill was like $340

okay, so from them you're buying:

          1. the differential (~350)
          2. all new bearings and seals (~100)
          3. fluid (~10)
          4. labor (~350)

if that's right, i'd say it's not the worst deal in the world.

^^ I had ALL the parts when I went to my mechanic. All he supplied was fluid and labor.

I was under the assumption by the way you posted you were providing everything. If they are coming up with all the parts except for your gears, thats not too bad.

Thats why if you can find a used Z-28 rear end w/ 3.42's its a deal.... if you can live with a used beat-on rear end with a questionable life expectancy of its own.

then they are not charging "professional" rates.

You should run.... or at least ask for references to work they have done before.

i got a quote from a very good shop local to me. 65$ for differential install, 115$ for diff and gears. i owned the gears and diff and fluids. so it costed me 115$ when i had gotten mine all installed and i looked at previous work they had done and i liked what i saw. (they did alot of work on fbodies that i know)
