  • M5 gearbox and clutch problems update

I recently discovered some big problems with my whole clutch assembly. In the morning when it was very cold it was extremely hard for me to put the car into gear. I took it in and they told me I needed a new clutch, my hydraulic fluid was out and my master and slave cylinder was gone. so they went ahead and charged me 1300 dollars for the repair. damn!! before the repair, my clutch was engaging really low to the floor, now afterwards my clutch engages right before I let off the clutch, is this normal??

          Normal as in stock? No.

Lot's of folks, especially racers, prefer this. It's less distance to push the pedal to shift but it's harsher on the street. ;)

I just got back from installing my spec 3 clutch. The pro's said that IT SUPPOSED to engage about half way through. They said to check, Put your car in first ger, Put the clutch pedal to the floor.. Press on the breaks to wear the car wont move.. slowly let off the clutch pedal. The clutch should engage right where it comes even with the preg pedal pressed down. Thats how you know its right

actually 1300 bucks is not so bad. You figure, clutch, pressure plate, resurfacing flywheel. thats about 525 right there. about 300 to install the clutch, 825 (4 hour job) Master cylinder is a pain in the *** job on these cars. Plus bleeding the damn slave and **** takes at least 2 hours.. figure in the hourly rate (norm. 65/hr) for bleeding the system, and about another hundred or so for the master cylinder.

The guys that did my clutch charged the guy ahead of me who was getting new clutch, slave and master cylinders 1800 bucks.. so i see that as a good deal.

they only chaged me on the other hand, 200 bucks for labor. I had all the parts and everything needed.
