• B&M electronic shift improver

I installed one 2 days ago and i'm VERY happy with the results. Installation was very easy. I didn't think it could make that much of a difference, but it cuts the shift time in half or more and it jerks you when shifting now. You will not spin the tire going into 2nd, but its about as close as you can get without digging into the tranny.

Perhaps you should do a search on B&M here and discover why so many do not recommend using that electronic shift kit.

I haven't seen any definite proof that the shift improver causes damage to the trans. Just because people think that more heat = more wear and tear and thus will hurt the trans and destroy it faster is just heresay. You could always get a trans cooler to counteract this. If anybody has deinite and truefull proof and is willing to share it with the rest of us then I will be more then willing to admit that it is harmfull, but to this point no such evidence has been put forth. However I wouldn't recommend putting it into stage 2 for an extended period of time. Two much of a good thing will harm you know matter what it is.

When i finally install my trans temp gauge ill let you know what's really going on. Anyways, i always thought friction created heat. Faster shifting = less friction.

Mostly you just have to worry about shift kits and shift improvers on worn trannys, if your tranny is fairly new then making it shift harder generally won't hurt it's just when you make a worn tranny shift harder that it wears faster.

True Dat hehe

Seriously though... if you're worried about it then get your fluid changed and install some Lube Gard. It will knock off AT LEAST 40 degrees of heat from your transmission... good stuff.

I'm running that, a cooler, a servo, and I have a shift kit stage 2 in there.

The faster shifting requires more pressure. The B&M Shift+ achieves this by messing with the elecronic solenoids. I doubt they were designed to operate (at least not continually) at pressures exceeding the normal.

They say it might be dangerous for ECM... never had a prob when I had mine on. I had it installed over a year, but didn't use it constantly.

There should be some easy splice connectors in the box, so that you only have to squeeze it around the wires and plug in the shift kit's wires.

in 98+ torque management software overrides some of the benefits of a shift kit, hardware or software. If you're really into the hard shift thing have someone from DHP flash your PCM to remove the torque management (www.clubgp.com). TM retards timing near WOT when the PCM notices shift time decreases. Or you could reset your computer everytime you drive Club Gp, look for a group called DHP

I have had the B&M shift+ on my car for 5 years and 70,000 miles. No problems. I like it in my daily driver because it can be turned off.

I do have a question:
It seems one function of many performance chips is to increase shift points and shift firmness electronically. If the B&M Shift+ causes problems, will a chip hurt the tranny especially sense the chip can not be turned "off"?

I had it in my camaro for over 6+ months with no problems, just because the tranny died it doesnt mean it was because of the B&M shift kit

Silver - Who makes the Lube Guard?

I really can't see how any heat/wear from the addition pressure is going to be any worse than the the heat/wear from the tranny slipping on purpose for that "smooooooth" shift feeling that car mans think we like. Probably not so much the extra pressure hurting anything but the additional beating you give the car (which is why you get a mod like that in the first place, right? ;) ) Haven't used my HPP III yet to increase shift firmness, but I've had about 6 cars though the years that have all gotten transpacks and set up as the race install without one of them ever failing. But that's just my personal experience (Which means I actually did it - not just repeated what I heard).

I'm gonna try the HPP at the track and then put it back to stock for normal driving.
