• LSD question. Help QUICK plz

Ok I wanna order this TODAY but I need to know a few things.

I have 3.08 gears in my 1997 A4 Camaro.

http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...&SHOWEMAIL=Off

Says "An O.E.M. Zexel-Torsen for 7.5" & 7.625" differentials found in most 89-2001 Camaro s & Firebirds (with 28 spline axles)."

Will this fit in my car AFTER I swap the 3.08s w/ 3.42s????

I wanna order this LSD while it's on sale, then when I get the gears I just put the LSD in along with it.

black97cam,
Don't worry it will fit fine along with your new gears. Its a 3 series carrier LSD so your 3.42's will fit perfectly. Anything under 3.23's won't fit. Just make sure when you order your gears to order them for a 3 series carrier. Hope this helps.

lol, i just hope the gear/lsd swap will make a difference.

Im running a 15.9 right now w/ the CAI and a flowmaster 80series.

My buddy has a set of 3.42's he's selling me (hopefully) for $50. The big money will come in when I get them installed.

You'll notice a difference. Especially in your 60' times. It will give you a stronger launch. You will notice a difference especially because you had 3.08's before. Not only that...youre not just getting the gears, youre also getting the LSD. Together they will upgrade your car's launch. With just this mod some people have even known to shave off up to half a second of their time.

Make sure you also pick up the ABS reluctor ring for the gear swap. SLP has the part#.

Fin is right. I had forgotten. You will need a new reluctor ring:

P/N: 26029

Since your going from a class 2 carrier to a class 3, you will need this to retain proper ABS function. its $20. or they might have it at Auto Zone since its a basic AcDelco part.

ok now that we are at it...you will notice your speedo will go off alittle. you can either live with it...or adjust it. except you might want to save this for later. SLP has a speedometer processor for $170 to make your speedo work properly. I havent even bought this myself because its pretty steep. with it you can adjust it to your new gears and even if you swap tires of a different size.

You could get the PCM re-flashed at the dealership for the new gears. However, I don't know that you could get 3.42's on a '97 V6 F-body, and you would want to find a VIN# from a car similar to yours w/3.42's. Not sure that the dealer would even want to do something like this.

I think Fin is referring to getting them and finding a similar car with 3.42's to reprogram the PCM like the car with original 3.42's from the factory using the its VIN#.

nah, he just meant he didn't know if 3.42s came stock on any '97 v6 f-body. i'm not positive but I think Y87 was an option on all 3.8s, so if that is true you can find a fellow '97 v6 with the Y87 option to get his VIN and get your pcm reprogrammed. without that your speedo will be off by about 9%. sooo when your speedo says 70 you will actually only be going 63, and so on.
