  • Why is the A4 hard to shift?

I have only driven this car so I dont know how another one would feel, It feels as thought I really have to pull it to get out of park, and I am not on a hill. Is the Camaro normaly hard to shift?

Mine is very smooth comming out of park unless the car has rollde since it was put into park and put the trannie in a bind.

Not to be an a$$ but you are pressing the brake good and hard first right?

Yeah, it seems they're "hard" to shift. I hadn't really noticed it, but a few have driven my car and they all had that complaint...

Not hard at all here. I usually put the e-brake on before I left off the brakes after I stop, though, so that may help.

I need to buy a new one, Mine sounds like the Titanic breaking in half when I reverse. :D

My 97 was very hard to pull out of park and then it broke in. Then I spilled a few drops of water right by the plates of the shifter and now it also sounds like I am breaking the Titanic in half. Weird.

be sure to ALWAYS stop in neutral between D, R, and P ... it helps a boatload! And it's much easier on the transmission ... let it slip into N, then move it into the other gear. Much much easier on the tranny.

i had this exact problem on my 95 firebird. It was always hard to shift out of drive but all of a sudden it became almost impossible. I would try to shift and the darn thing wouldn't budge, I had to put all my strength into it (almost ripped the console off). Well anyways I brought it to the mechanic and it ended up being the shift accutator. A cheap part, about 100 bucks to fix.

If someones in the car with me when i put it in reverse Ill say "Ill Never let go Jack, Never". It freaks some people out, I think mine is just loose mounts though, When you work on other peoples cars all day you dont have time to check your own.
