• What should I do-clutch/dealer issues?

I bought my Camaro new with 20 miles on it in February of 2003, and it has about 19,500 on it now. My clutch return spring was probably broken when I bought the car, but I didn't find out until it made really loud noises a couple of days apart and a bushing fell on the floor.

I had the spring replaced, and less than three months and 3,000 miles later it broke again. I had it fixed, and it's been fine until tonight when I was going around a turn coming up the hill to my neighborhood and pushed in the clutch to shift and the spring broke.

I'm going on the fourth spring, and it's getting a little annoying. The first time my car was at the dealer for a week waiting for the part. The second time I asked them to order it in advance, but when I came back to get the car they told me the problem like I didn't know. It turned out the spring didn't come in, requiring another trip and they had to take my dash apart twice for that repair.

Should I just let them replace it again, or do I need to do something else? It was replaced at 13,000 or 14,000 miles last time, so it's probably going to happen again.

Find out why it breaks. Is it your driving? I know they didn't give you 4 defective springs.
Maybe buy a matching size spring that is much beefier.

It was broken when I got the car and it's never happened in the Firebird, so I don't think it's driving. When it broke all I was doing was pushing in the clutch normally.

Last time they replaced it they said they new springs were stronger because they had issues with the old ones, but apparently they haven't gotten it quite right yet. Maybe I need to try a different dealer.

I hate saying it, but "if you want something done right..." well, you know. I would try another dealer as long as it's covered under warranty.

BTW: Meatwad (your avatar) is awesome! I love that cartoon.

I was thinking about having another dealer do it, but the next closest one is 30 miles away and it's really small until they open their new one in a few months. I called and had them order the part today at the dealer here, so I'll give it another shot. I've still got over a year for this until my warranty expires.

I looked last night and California lemon law is four repair attempts within the first 18 months or 18,000 miles. I've had the car for 22 months.
