• B&M Ripper

Is the throw on this a lot shorter than stock? Is it shorter than the Hurst Pro 5.0. I haven't seen the Ripper or the Hurst except for websites and I don't know which to get. All I know is the stock shifter sucks and I want something with a shorter throw. Thanks guys!

I read the tech database. It says:
"The Ripper's stick is not much shorter, if any, than stock."

This doesn't seem to coincide with most people's opinions so I wanted to see what everyone had to say about it. I've never heard anyone say it was too long. I don't understand this quote.

I just installed my B&M Monday, and I love it. It's way shorter than the shifter that comes with the car. I've also test drove V8's with the hurst shifter in them, and from what i can tell, the B&M have shorter throws than the hurst shifters in the Z28's. I also love the feel of the B&M over the hurst and the standard shifter that came with my car.

I would recommend the Pro 5.0 shifter and get Lou's Short Stick. That's about as short as you can get.

That is referring to the stick of the shifter itself, not the throw. The throw will be noticeably shorter. My stock shifter (yes i still have that POS) comes all the way back to the console when in 2nd, 4th, and R. With a Ripper you will notice it does not come near as close and feels much more firm and precise. I have had the chance to drive/sit in a few friends cars who had the ripper. Made me hate my shifter when i got back in my car!

Did you all install these shifters yourself...or did someone else do it? How hard is it to install them?

Extremely easy you can do it with a basic metric socket set and about 1.5 hours.

The only problem I ran into, was the sealant that is used to hold the boot down and the shifter itself. But, yeah you should be able to do it yourself. For a saftey precaution. I took the air bag fuse out, also make sure the keys are not in the ignition. You'll be working near the air bag sensor.

Took me 45 min to put mine in. It's easy to swap the shifter but takes some time to get to the shifter. You have to remove some panels.

Those of you that recommend the Hurst Pro 5.0? Why do you recommend it over the Ripper?

Have you ever used a Ripper?
