• Question about Carriers and Limited Slip Installation...

This is not for me, but I was just wondering...

On a car with 3.08's (2 series)... I ordered the Limited Slip (torsen unit) and also 3.73's for a 2 series carrier. Will this all fit... because I am not sure 100% if it will or not. Maybe I should send back the 3.73's and order the 3.73's for a 3 series carrier? Any ideas?

Ouch, ya the Torsen unit is a 3-series carrier. You need gears that fit 3-series to go with that.

      It's for my friend's 1989 Trans Am...

see it has 3.08's and I ordered 3.73's from Thunderracing that say "for a 2 series carrier" and he also wanted to get rid of that open end differential of his so I ordered the SLP torsen unit since his year is listed for that piece to fit. So now I am not sure what all needs to be done... do I send back the gears to Thunderracing and just get the 3 series carrier ones or do I have to get a Carrier AND the 3 series gears?

you need to return the ring and pinion and get one for a 3 series carrier. that led you ordered from slp is a 3 series so you need the correct gears. I think you might also need a new reluctor ring if he has abs and wants to retain proper funcion of the abs system...im not sure if 89 trans-ams came out with anti-lock brakes. well then thats $20 bucks you save. then just return the gears and get some for the 3 series carrier and you should be good to go. good luck.
