I've seen a lot of posts on gear upgrades but most of them involve one guy saying one thing than another saying the opposite and then the 2 arguing so my question is... What EXACTLY do i need to buy (include everything) toget a better gear ratio in my car? <2000 camaro A4> also...what should I upgrade to? 3.42? 3.73? 4.10? which is easier/cheaper to change to? does it make a difference? please help!

I did a search on this topic(well a search on 3.73 gears), and from all that I read. It's best to use 3.42's in A4 and 3.73's in M5. A good place for a gear package is click here for gears Just click on Camaro on the upper left, then V6 models, go to Transmission/Gears and go to the bottom of the page. They have Master Installation kits for $289.992000 V6 Camaro(bought brand new)

1. I would never buy from TByrne. He is the biggest ******* I had to deal with. Screw him and his overpriced parts.
www.ls1speed.com is much much much better and has wayyyyy lower prices.
2. He doesn't need a huge install kit. Let's pay $100 for a bunch of shims and nuts.

instead of replacing ring and pinion and abs reluctor and then having to shim and check pattern and all that other headache, just get a new (or used) rear-end from speedautomotive. unless you are experienced in final drive rebuilding this is your best bet.ASE Master, L1, X1, C1. I'd say go w/ a used TA rear end w/ a set of 3.42's. I heard its a lot cheaper just lookin for a used rear end then buying everything new an attempting to do it urself.
just my opinion, that would i would do
Dont go any higher than 3.42's unless ur planning on doing a power adder later on, ex. - nitrous/blower.
Good luck.<a href=\"http://www.pbase.com/danny83/car_pix\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.pbase.com/danny83/root</a><br /><a href=\"http://community.webshots.com/user/ttopbird96\" target=\"_blank\">http://community.webshots.com/user/ttopbird96</a> <br />00 NMB Formula M6<br />323.4HP, 336.5TQ<br />Lid, Filter, Cutout, all else stock :)<p>\"Let the modding begin!\"

i agree that swapping rear end assemblies is much more convenient (and often cheaper) than rebuilding final drive assembly, and this should be the choice for inexperienced modders as well as experienced techs that are broke (like myself).
however.... i recommend staying 3.42 or below unless you're going to the track often and staying off the interstate. I would not recommend going with anything lower (numerically higher) than 3.42 especially with power-adders (NOS, FAI) unless your primary use is racing. your gas mileage will suffer and cruising at high rpm's is not all that good for the engine.
