  • What makes a Stage 3?

I've been looking at TransGo Shift kits..and none of them mention anything about 'Stage 3'. I heard of Stage 2 and Stage 3 shift kits, but they obviously don't sell them like this. So my question is, What makes a Stage 3 a Stage 3?

I heard it's more aggressive, but can I just purchase any TransGo shift kit, and be able to make it a 'Stage 3'?

    Thanks

I don't believe stage III shifts any harder than stage II.

    Although it very well may.

The most noteable difference about Stage III is full manual control. All automatic up and downshifts are eliminated. You control it.

On popular trannies like the TH350 and TH400, I believe they also offer a reverse shift pattern. PRN123

If you put it in Overdrive, would it shift automatically? Or would you 'need' to shift all the time?

        FULL Manual Control.
It completely removes computer shifting. You shift each and every gear on every single upshift and downshift.

I understand about not seeing an advertised "Stage III" though, often and technically I believe its just called a Stage II: Full Manual or something to that degree.

Trans-Go has a toll free 1-800 number to answer your questions (about it shifting physically harder than stage II)

With all the searches I've done so far, all I can ever find by TransGo is 'TransGo Perfomance Shift Kit for 4L60E Transmissions'

Anyways, I guess that's what I'm looking for. Thanks for clearing up some of my questions.

I run stage II because I also utilize an NHRA lock-out shifter with a ratchet mode.

With ratchet mode engaged, I control up and downshifts with the exception of coming to a complete stop. And depending on the RPM, if you go WOT, the tranny may downshift but if I go to hit the hammer, I have usually already slammed the shifter into the next lower gear anyway.

From what I've read over at Summit Racing, The 4L60-E Shifter allows full manual control for 1-2 and 2-3. So it may go into overdrive automatically with it in "Drive" but obviously not if you left the shifter in third.
