• Questions about rear-end

Hey guys I have just about had it with the little peg leg (open-diff). So I have been thinking about getting a LSD Serries-2 Carrier so that I can use my stock 3.08 gears for right now. The reason I think this is what I want to do right now instead of getting 3.42s and a Serries-3 Carrier is that I'm going to be doing a lot of driving (highway) very soon and I done want to worry about gas mileage. Plus even if I get a Serries-2 LSD right now all I have to do is get a set of 3.42s from Jegs or Summit to match the Serries-2 carrier. So I guess my real question is do you all think its worth doing this right now or should I wait until I get the 3.42s? Also what spline axles do we have? By the way I will be doing the work myself so I'm not worried about going into the rear twice. Thanks for the help in advance.

I think the 3-series carrier is a lot cheaper than the 2-series because it's just so much more common. It is easier to find and purchase, plus you wouldn't need to get the shimmed gears (that's what they do to make it fit right?)
Also, most people who switch to 3.42's still maintain great gas mileage. A few months back there was a post about gas mileages with different gears and the 3.08 guys didnt get anything better than the 3.42 guys on the highway.

Hey thanks a lot on the replies guys. I think I'm going to do like you all said and like I wanted to do in the first place. I was just pricing everything and its going to be like $200 more for me to go with a Serries-2 carrier and get the 3.42s down the road that will match that carrier. So after seeing that I think I'm going to stick with the 3.42 idea and get better preformance all around. Thanks again for the replies.
