  • speedo and gear question

I have read (and reread) most of the posts in this section. I see that 3.42's is a good choice for gears and I saw the SLP website where they cost $100. My questions are, will I need to get my speedo recalibrated? If so, does the dealer do it? (for hom much)
also I saw that you need a vin# from a car with those gears to get it calibrated, so would a WS6 vin# work? Problems I see is that #1 I'm a Camaro #2 his is a v8 are they problems?
and lastly that slp website for the (zexel-torsen?) does that include EVERYTHING I need to get it installed or will I hafta buy more?
Thanks in advance for any help/advice

3.42 gears pn:64048 and a ring reluctor pn: 26029 from slp website. i cannot remember the part number for the torsen diff but is the oem one. also i think you will need a gear kit to complete the installation.

to get yours reprogrammed you need a V6 vin from your year usually and with 3.42s stock... i am sure that finding someone with an 02 Y87 will not be a problem on this board. the transmission needs to be the same as yours as well. i programmed my PCM with a VIN from a 2000 camaro that had 3.42s stock. mine is working fine and i have yet to have any problems out of it.

price wise... i went to a dealership i have hook ups at and mine was programmed for free, well i had to buy him a blizzard from dairy queen :D

call around to a couple dealerships, especially if there is one near you that sells a lot of vettes, camaro ss's, etc... chances are they can reprogram the speedo for you. usually they'll do it for tire size changes but it can be done for gear changes too, no vin needed. i was quoted about $85, still haven't gotten off my *** to get it done though.
