• Could we have a no b/s discussion on converters?

I am not going to be biased in this discussion.
I want the best for the v6 community.
I do NOT want to see people calling each other names or whatever.

Please list your car, brand of converter, effeciency, torque multiplication factor, current gearing, cost of converter, et's w/ stock and aftermarket converter, and before and after 60 foot's, and also mph reduction from stock to aftermarket converter

Ok, I have a 1997 firebird

I run a Pro Yank 3200 nitrous converter

The effeciency is 95.5 to 96% at 5800 rpm's

I have a 2.8 torque multiplication factor

I run 323 gears

My converter cost $700!!

Previous et's with stock converter were 15.2 to 15.3 at englishtown

My current best with pro yank is 14.4's with typical 14.5's

I was running 2.3 60 foots with the stock converter

I usually now see mid to low 1.9 60 foot's

Stock converter I was seeing a best of just under 93 mph (I never broke the 93 barrier)

Aftermarket converter I see just under 92 mph (I have never broke the 92 barrier)

I gained the following (compare best possible times):
.4 reduction in the 60 foot times
.8 reduction in the 1/4 et's
I have lost 1 mph from stock to aftermarket

Discussion area:
I am very happy with my converter. My gearing choice is NOT optimal for et's and 60's n/a. I bought a nitrous converter which on the bottle can stall to 3600. My gearing is for my nitrous times. I have only hooked once and only once on the bottle to a best of 1.631. I spin all the damn time on nitrous. I do run a tranny cooler with this set up.
$700 is a big complaint with this brand, and I do understand this.
When I called them mine was made specifically for my car. I gave them vehicle weight, gearing, tire height, dyno numbers, peak hp, peak tq, purpose of useage etc.

I should have new et drag's very soon, so maybe new 60 ft's on the bottle shortly

Anyone else?

I have a 97 Camaro
Running a ACT 2800 convertor
97% Efficient
2.5 Torque Multiplication Factor
And I'm running 3.42's

The convertor ended up costing me $450

I got it and at the same time, I had my tranny rebuilt, a trans go, and servo put in.

My N/A times before were 14.7
I havent ran it at the track yet, but I know its a definate improvement from what I had before. I'll post numbers as soon as I get them. (Will also be running a tranny cooler by the time I go to the track again)

With the new convertor I noticed a bit of a traction problem, but if you figure out the right pressure to use on the gas you are good. Just not used to this constant spinning off the line.

car: 2000 Camaro

stock converter 60': 2.0's
current times: 14.51 @ 91
current 60's: 1.92- 1.96

the gains are not that impressive but for about .1 dropped in the 60' i have lost .3 in the 1/4

i have overall kept about the same MPH i would run on stock converter

discussion:
im happy with mine. street ability is just as good as stock. car still moves like normal and no way anyone could know there was a converter until they step on it. the only thing that is holding my times back in race weight. my car is a pig. no way around it.my race weight with me in the car is usually around 3650 thats alot of weight to get off the line and moving down the track. i believe with some skinnies and all the typical weight reduction i could see a 14.2 on a good night at the track.i always seem to skip those nights though  sure it may seem a little of a low prediction but i know the car has more in it. weight is holding me back.

I love the converter to pull these great 60 foot and times and to have only spent 300 bucks to me is a great deal. I need to work on my N20 times but i blieve that is do to some problems but the 60 foot is there. Me personally I wouldnt pay $700 for a converter but as of now i will admit i seem to be a freak when it comes to edge converter cause nobody else is pulling great times. I was Edges first V6 converter built he didnt even know if it would work or throw ses lights. I went for the plunge and have loved it since.

$325.00 not too bad. I'm looking into getting a converter eventually, so that's something to consider.

I see so many different converters with different prices. Does the most expensive ones are they better? And do you need the lock up ones too?

Because I am looking at B&M. Cool this discussion is alot better and less confusing. Kudos to James.

Thank you all for keeping this civil
I'm doing a TTT just so we can possibly get more feedback from others.
Get a lock up converter.

As for most expensive being better, well, I don't know.

Slacker's car is doing quite well with a .5 reduction
I did get a .8 reduction but I would guess some other things played into those reductions

james, i thought you ran 14.8 with stock verter? so from 14.8 to 14.4 thats .4 reduction, where does the other .4 come from?

14.8 was one freak day in maryland at cecil
I think it was one high 14.8 and one or two 14.9's
Weather was extremely cold, track conditions were great, this is known for a quick track.
I was NEVER EVER able to hit 14's n/a at englishtown.
The absolute best I could squeak out of the bird at englishtown was 15.2
Englishtown is my home track so I base my times of that track only.
I have made countless passes n/a w/ stock and yank at englishtown
Based on englishtown results:
Best n/a stock converter 15.2- 15.3's
Best n/a pro yank converter 14.4- 14.5's

When I do the math it is .8
