  • T-5 Lube

I noticed that the T-5 uses ATF for lubricant. Sounded a little strange but I know it's not the only manual transmission that uses ATF. Anywyay, what's a good "upgraded" lubricant to use? Redline 75w90 is amazing stuff but would probably be too thick for our T-5's. What's everyone else using?

    Thanks.

You need to use Dexron/Mercon III. AAMCO makes a Dexron/Mercon V which is a semi-synthetic lubricant. That is what I am running.

ONLY USE ATF IN YOUR T-5 TRANSMISSION!!

DO NOT USE 75w-90 GEAR LUBE...

ONLY USE ATF IN YOUR T-5 TRANSMISSION!!

If you want to use an upgraded ATF, go with Redline or Mobil 1.

I added Red Line D4 ATF when I changed mine out a few months back. Works great, smoother shifts and less vibration..

Dom, chill out, I said 75W-90 would be too thick... :D

Redline D4 ATF. Sounds good. Anyone else use this and can comment? I saw that Royal purple has a synthetic tranny fluid made for manual transmissions that use ATF. I've never used any royal purple products before, just Redline. It may be worth checking out.

            I use Mobile one Sync.

BTW, after switching to this, I have a light Tranny leak. It seems to be coming from the top of the trann somewhere, as there is some all the way down the side of it.

It is enough of a leak that I get a few drips in the driveway every night. Though, even after 2 months, I put the car up on stands and level it out, and check the fluid, and it is still right up to the hole.

Do you think this came from running the sync, fluid? Also, what is on the top of the tranny that is leaking?

            Thanks!
