Well this seems like a great upgrade. I dont realy know tons about them though. I'be been looking at the www.edgeracingconverters.com converters. The only probelm is iam not sure which one i should get for myself.
How hard is this install?
My mods are at the bottum but i also plan on doing the camshaft and 3.73 gears eventually but i want a converter that will be good also when i get that done.
Hopefully THIS topic will stay civil.
I have a 3500 stall and it is completely streetable. Make sure when you buy one that is has a lock-up clutch. That way when you reach ~45mph the converter will lockup under normal driving conditions and save you from putting additional stress on the transmission. You might also want to look into the STR of the converter. The higher the number (2.8, 3.0) the harder it is off the line, the lower (1.6,2.0) the softer it is. Just depends if you want massive gains on the launch and less elsewhere, or more of a all-around converter with better high-end.
The install is up there in the medium-difficult category. Ya, you could probably do it, but only if you have no apprehension in dropping your transmission, or even have the tools to do so. Once the tranny is down its quite simple. But then you have to put it all back together again. I would recommend getting a professional to do it. Install time is anywhere from 2-4 hours.
Hope this helps ya out
edit: woops, didn't see the M5 part, ya torque converters are only for automatics ;)

evan see what you have done
you make it seem that edge is so ****ing wonderfull that people that cant even use a converter want one
hrmm people really started liking edge when it was termed "ruthless"
dam i was gonna drop the whole converter thing but i know the guy found edge because of alll your gay talk and dosnt even know what it does but it sounds like a good mod and dosnt know which one to get
hrmmm lmao
sorry guy no converter for you, you dont have an automatic
ruthlessness: maybe evan can talk them into making edge clutches rofl

CamaroRob97, a torque converter is an automatic transmission mod, no way you can use it on your manual as you use a clutch. A Converter to an automatic is like a clutch to a manual, so perhaps look into an aftermarket clutch.

Tourqe converts don't go on m5? I know what they basicly do, but i havent found a good place to just read on them yet. Don't get me wrong, but i want to learn as much as i can about this stuff.
Its not somthing i would right away i would rather do the rear end gear and camshaft next. Then a converter

Nope, a converter won't work on your car unless you drop an automatic transmission in it. However I could understand the desire to do such a thing because...
im being honest though im sure he found out edge through evans post most likly right?
and with all of evans talk about how good it was the poor guy didnt even know he couldnt have one but he knew he needed one cause it was ruthless
im being serious see atleast the poor guy asked would of sucked had he went and bought a 3600 stall from edge and took it to a tranny shop and looked like a dumbass
ok ive learned somthing lol, but iam acutlly kinda happy then i dont need it. Next thing i want to look into then is camshaft and maybe even rocker arms who knows
Rob... when Keith(Magnus) says it's an automatic mod, he means that it will not install on a manual transmission. Sorry man.. you have a clutch, not a converter.
All automatic cars have torque converters... the buzz you hear on this board is about performance tuned converters to replace the stock ones. It's not an add-on modification.
Manual transmissions use clutches not converters.
The comparable mod as Keith suggested for your manual car is an aftermarket(racing) clutch.
Check companies like ThunderRacing and RKSport.com for clutches... I'm sure there are others too.
Good luck

Oh and Jason, I'm planning on getting an Edge and the reason is strictly $$$$. $700 US is too freaking much $ for me, especially after conversion to CAD.
So are you going to rag on me too? ;)

no i want people to show me how good edge is (seriously im being serious) its all for the betterment of the v6 community
if someone had a cam and didnt dyno or anything to see what the gains are what the hell does that do for the community just like having a stall not wanting to run a good number but going around saying its the greatest thing since sliced bread (how he can he say that when numbers dont prove it) sliced bread is the **** too
da notorious DOM: i dont care if i have a manual i'm getting edge
