• 3.08's to 3.73's. i'm confused

This is what thunder told me. I thought you could get the series 3 differential and use series 3 gears and have no problem. I'm confused. If someone can shed a little light on this it would be greatly appreciatied.

Unfortunately we won't have any LS units as a direct swap for that
model
car. Since you have a 3.08 gear, your carrier is a 2 series and the
Motive
gears are only available in a 3 series. When swapping from a 2 to a 3
series, you will run into ABS issues as the sensors are different
depending
on the carrier. You might try to find a posi that is a 2 series. Then
you
can order the Strange 2 series gears we carry and the install kits.

And that's exactly right - unfortunately, they're saying the 3.08 gear you have is based on a series 2 carrier, so you don't have the series 3 carrier that's required to use the 3.73's. The series 3 gears won't work with a series 2 carrier because of the actual thickness of the ring gear. (one is thicker than the other).

Hope that helps -

Heck, after I read that again, it probably didn't help  Are you really asking them 2 things - If they have a LSD for you and if you get the 3.73 gears? If that's the case, they're telling you 1. They don't make a LS for your 2 series carrier and the ABS won't be right if you put a 3 series carrier in there. 2. If you want a LS with the current setup you'll have to locate a series 2 LS and use different gears. Not sure if you could just get all the ABS stuff from a 3 series car and then upgrade to 3 series LSD/gear.
WOW - that still didn't get any better - I quit

or you can try to find a rear end from a wreck ls1 that has 3.73's and just swap the whole thing out. hell of a lot easier than screwing with backlash and all that crap, or finding this series carrier or that reluctor ring.
you can\'t get off if you don\'t get on
