Or you could drive into a parking lot and dump the clutch. Then go back to inspect the markings. That will tell you for sure. Just don't back up first. ;)\" As being is to becoming, so is pure itellect to opinion, so is science to belief, and understanding to the peception of shadows.\" - Plato

No Oryan that wont - if you knew how differentials work you'd understand that even with an open both wheels *can* spin.
Look on the driver's door for G80, if its not there you're peg legging.2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

I DO know how differentials work. I never said that only one wheel will leave a mark. My car would leave two black streaks when it was new. After a few weeks it just became a peg-leg. Dumping the clutch is one of the easiest ways to find out. If I were to sell my car, and say a person on this site bought the car, if they checked for a production code(only) they would think that the car had an open differential. If they dump the clutch several times it would show them that the car wasn't stock. Therefore why only tell someone to look for a production code? I would be pissed if I bought a car and purchased a LSD differential because the only advise you gave was "check the for such and such production codes" and I didn't need it. Why not give somebody more than one option.
An open differential applies the same amount of torque to both wheels. If one tire breaks loose due to a loss of traction it will continue to spin faster than the other because there will be no transfer of torque to the gripping wheel.(If both wheels break loose at the same time then, both wheels will spin and leave marks)
An LSD, using its clutches will transfer torque from the slipping wheel to the gripping wheel in an attempt to get both wheels moving at the same speed.
P.S. I stand by my original statement.

If the car is new then you could just ask the dealership or look at the build sheet.\" As being is to becoming, so is pure itellect to opinion, so is science to belief, and understanding to the peception of shadows.\" - Plato
