• Aluminum flywheel in!

Just installed the Spec aluminum flywheel and Spec stg 2 clutch this morning. Clutch was also ordered with the lightweight option.

Install was fine. The flywheel came with the right balance from Spec, no need to worry about having it matched to stock.

Car is very streetable. The spec 2 is engaging smoothly without chatter right from the get-go. No stalling or takeoff worries with the light flywheel. I think it's idling a little lower, sounds a bit different.

Still breaking things in, so no full on launches or extended WOT yet. But the car feels lighter, likes to rev faster. I will be taking it to the dyno to quantify the difference over stock, we should see a constant torque gain (with resulting power bump) across the band since it's spinning up noticably less weight.

Oh, and put a B&M Ripper in at the same time. Love it! 1->2->3 shift is sweet. 4th is a little off to the right, not straight down like stock, which catches me a little bit - anyone else have this?

    Awesome!

Did you use the SPEC 13 flywheel?

Who did you get the flywheel and clutch from?

Explain exactly what the flywheel does. I know the starter turns it and thats about it.

It's what the clutch grabs onto to turn the tranny and move the wheels.

so would the lightweight one make "THAT BIG" of a difference?

I mean is it really worth the cash to buy and have installed?

It's being turned with the engine, so if it's lighter there will be less mass to be spun up that steals power.

Do it yourself and don't worry about the install price.

don't know how and I have no time to learn I do like learning about how to do all my work myself, but there are some things I just can't do yet.

If I knew how, could I do it my self or would I need help?

Since you're asking about a shift kit in another thread, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you have an A4. If that's the case, you don't even have the same style of flywheel and none of this applies to you.

                  and I don't suggest pulling a tranny out by yourself(right matt? ;) )

thats cool, btw X2 on spec II, alot better then I thought. My pedal feels lighter and this clutch feels like it engages better. Can't wait to go WOT

oh, I thought a flywheel was a flywheel and I do know I have one. Next time tell me why it doesn't apply to me.

he did. he said you have an a4 and its a different type of flywheel.

This is a very rare mod. I'm glad to see it being done. Hope it continues to work well for you. is it significantly harder to slow the car down by down shifting now?

I didn't understand why my flywheel style would be a different style. I didn't know that autos and manuals were different styles as in flywheels. Thought it was all the same. The different styles thing was kinda vague to me and I thought he didn't explain it. I guess I read it wrong, my bad

an Automatic "flexplate" doesnt have a flat surface for the clutch to engage on.... we have a torque converter, so the flywheel (automatics are called flexplates) is just there for the starter to spin, its thinner and lighter than the manuals... I am sure someone may post a picture or somthing to help you out, but i dont have any, so i will leave that to someone else unless you do a search for pictures on google or somthing

Thanks! I understand now. So there is no need for me to get a lighter one. Thanks! This is useful to me because I do plan on converting my car into a manual one day.
