• Rear Gear install, need some info

Hey, I was wondering if any of you all had a web link to somewhere that tells everything on how to install rear gears. Mine are screaming like crazy, so I ordered me some 3.73's and a install kit. I have a Haynes manual on my Camaro, but it tells nothing about installing gears on a Camaro. Which sucks. I was going to take it to a dealer but they are going to charge me $485 which they can kiss my a$$.

My dad is going to help me, since he has rebuilt transmissions and has worked and rebuilt about every part of a car or truck one can think of, I'm sure he won't have no problems installing gears. I just want to get some info on it before we start the install. He will be doing most of the work. :-p Since when it comes to the driveline I don't really no much and plus I drather him do most of the work since he has all the experience.

Thanks for any info you can give.

Here's a couple websites with some walkthroughs. I've seen a few others out there over the years, see if you can find them.

i thought that you'd have to get the backlash perfect .005-.006?

Yes, he'll have to use a dial indicator to get the backlash to near perfect. That's why the Haynes manual doesn't explain how to do it...because it's not for a home mechanic who doesn't know what to do.

I had a shop that would do it for $210. That was the cheapest I found. Here, it was from $210-350 for a max of 6 hr job in my city.

I will have to find me a dial indicator and do my research. I plan on changing gears alot, so I'm not gonna pay around ~$250 everytime I want it changed up.

Welp, dropped my car off today. So, I'm going to pick her up tomorrow. :) I'll have to be easy on here for a little while to wear the new gears in. Plus I'll have to find some MPH readings until I get my retune that I just got through ordering from Westers. Anyone know right off what the speeds would show if I had 3.23 and went to 3.73's? I'll do a search, I remember seeing it in a post, just forget which one. :)

Thanks,
Jeff

Ok, I searched and I can not find it, I should of placed a bookmark on it. Anyone have a link to a page that shows how fast I will be going if my car still has program for 3.23 but I'll be running 3.73's.

Thanks,
Jeff

Letting everyone know that I got my Camaro back this past Friday. The car is freaking sweet. It's like a different car. Pulls like crazy. :-D I'm so glad I went with 3.73's Now I'm waiting for my custom tune to come by UPS so I can have a correct speedo. :)
