  • Where should I get other parts needed for my clutch install?

Well thunder was having a sale for 10th anniversary yesterday and I saved $35 on the spec2 I ordered! Anyway, I need other stuff too. Is there anywhere cheaper than partsdirect for the following parts?
    1) flywheel? [what #?]
    2) slave cylinder? [is # 15046288 from partsdirect the best part?
    3) master cylinder? [12565144]
    4) should I get a different pilot bearing or is the included spec one pretty good?

    Anything else I should get?

Or could someone at least tell me where I can find the part number for the flywheel at partsdirect, I really don't know how to search on their website. Thanks

OK partsamerica has part number 6533 which appears to be a flywheel for the bird for like $46. Is this a resurfaced or completely new one? Would it be better than a gmpartsdirect one?

Why don't you just resurface your flywheel? Just buy your slave at NAPA or some of the mroe trusted parts stores. Don't replace your master if there isnt anything wrong with it. You don't need the tranny out to replace it so don't waste your cash, just flush the system with new fluid.

Also replace your rear main seal and your pilot bearing. Tranny is out so its a great time for it.

Replace your hydraulics, imo... if you have to go cheap, skip the master you can always do it later.

FWIW, v6 and v8 hydraulics are very similar. And we have the crappy hydraulics as well.

The new upgraded slave from GM was different then the one I took out. And its a different part number from 98-00 and 01-02.

IF your pulling it all replace the slave, and get a GM one, I trust most parts from auto stores but not when it comes to pulling the tranny to get to it.

As for the flywheel, best price I coudl find for a new one was $180 and I had to wait like 5 days. GM was $225 and there next day.

You can resurface yours, but mine had deep heat scores in it. Half the peopel said it was toast, other half said its resurfaceable, I didn't want ot chance it.

I have new clutch, new slave, new master, new flywheel, pedal feel is very manageable back to when the car was new.

Spec II I ordered came with T/o bearing (new slave comes with this too, both identical), pilot bushings, the one form spec has roller bearings in it, the GM one is ajust a little ring. (I suggest getting a slide hammer to get this out)

For what its worth, I have a 2k, with 52k miles, and the hydraulics have gone bad on me twice.

Is my slave part number the correct one that I need? Is the flywheel from partsamerica above any good; better than resurfacing my current one?
I guess I will wait on the master since the one I have now appears to be working fine.

dont forget about your RMS.. $10 only.
If its your first clutch - just resurface your flywheel

Any particular rear main seal, or is the autozone one OK? Can someone answer my above questions please, I want to get this clutch installed ASAP.
                          Thanks

My flywheel was replaced and had deep hot spots in it, and wasn't reccomended to be resurfaced.

Some said it still coudl have, some said no. The flywheel had like 45k miles on it.

as for RMS... its your decision... ltos of peopel said yeah change, but I did lots of searches on it, lots of people still had leaks after they changed it, I figured, if it ain;t broke don't fix it yet.
