ok i've been looking at these since i'm getting a torque converter installed very soon, and i can't figure out the difference between the electrical and mechanical gauges? i figure the mechanical is where you tap into the tranny pan, and the electrical is where you can just tap into the wire going to the pcm?? is that right... please lemme know because i would like to do this myself if possible, thanks...
Either way, you will have to tap into the system on your own. Electrical will need a "sending unit" for the temperature. This can be put into the oil drain plug of the transmisison on tapped into the tranny cooling lines. From there, a wire is run to the back of the gauge. This is probably about the easiest way to do it and the way I would suggest. I did it this way and finished the installation of the guage with all wiring in just under an hour.
