I am in the break in period for my clutch, just started 8 miles ago. Ive heard 500 miles with no hard launches or take-offs w/ RPM over 1500 or so. I know the purpose of this is to heat cycle the clutch and make even initial wear, but does it matter if its city or highway? It would seem like highway miles would not work the clutch and therefore would not make any difference in the break in. Am I wrong? Does the clutch still heat up and "break in" like it should on extended highway trips?

you want to feather your clutch a little more.. almost make it slip on purpose from time to time.. but dont burn it up. do like.. a 1500 rpm feather and whatnot.
I broke mine it.. i hated breaking it in. its just so tempting to romp it with a racing clutch..96 Camaro M5. they say city drving I had a few tiny trips like 7 miles on the highway and such put in, but then agian I would hit a long road in my neighborhood at night, go 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1 u-turn 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1 u-turn and so on and so forth.
Just do that and listen to love line on the radio [img]graemlins/rofl.gif[/img] And of course some driving.
but they say heat it up, and let it cool, not to jsut do it all at once, I tired to do about 20-40 mile trips letting it done.
I have been getting on it alot the last 100 miles, but not dropping it hard, granny shifting but riding the gears out.

This may sound like a completely stupid question, but does the transmission fluid circulate around the clutch or is it a dry friction type thing? I would suspect the fluid circulates and thus on long highway trips I would guess the warm fluid would keep the clutch hot for long periods of time; would this be bad?M5, posi, headers-3\"hooker catback, spec2, alum DS, whisper lid & K&N, hurst, eagle 077s w/kumho supras, subframes, 3point stb, trans hatch

fluid is no where near your clutch...
a clutch works like a disc brake sort of, with friction...
